The Didn’t Ask to be a Hero Podcast strives to share the stories of ordinary women who have overcome challenges and are now walking in the truth of God’s love, freedom, and victory! These stories celebrate the unsung sheroes who, due to unexpected circumstances, have grown in faith and are shining more brightly in the light of God’s story for their lives. These stories remind us of the familiar and the completely foreign, bringing women together across the divides of the unknown and the different.

The Didn’t Ask to be a Hero Podcast gives voice to women who may not always be heard to transform other women’s stories as we transform our families and communities one story at a time.

Dr. Annie Raney, Host

One might look at my resume and think I am a storyteller because of my career choice as an educator; however, my love for telling stories began as a child.  I used to arrange my stuffed animals on my bed, and I would tell them Bible stories like David and Goliath and Noah and the Ark.  When I turned 13, I began telling lively stories in church, engaging and captivating the children and adults.  Based on the reaction of the audience I realized that it was much more interesting and fun to learn a lesson from a story than from a lecture.  As much as I love to tell stories, I also like to listen to the stories of others.  I vividly remember my dad repeatedly (I begged for the story every night!) telling me the story about how, as a little boy growing up in India, he saved many people when he killed a King Cobra!  What?!  My dad, a simple man, did something so amazing and heroic?  Thus began my quest to find extraordinary stories experienced by ordinary people, just like me.
